Coffeeshops in Amsterdam are a big draw for many visitors to the Dutch capital. Some resemble dazzling psychedelic lounges while others ooze classy speakeasy vibes. We’ve scoured the city to bring you a list of the best, ranging from glitzy high-end establishments to low-key coffeeshops where you can relax with a book or watch the world go by.
Located in the heart of the affluent Jordaan district, La Tertulia is a family-run coffeeshop with a New Age feel. It’s also a favourite among locals. The menu includes rolled selections and space muffins, as well as a good range of cannabis strains including world-class varieties. The venue features a canal-side terrace and a Van Gogh mural.
Prix d’Ami is not only one of the largest coffeeshops in Amsterdam but the whole world, though it doesn’t look like it from the outside. It stretches across three floors of a large building and offers a wide range of activities. There’s a cinema, a bar with live televised sports and five smoking rooms.
It’s not easy to find a seat in this tiny, friendly coffeeshop in Heisteeg. It’s named Tweede Kamer (House of Representatives), a play on words with the Netherlands parliament and has a stately atmosphere thanks to wood panelling and framed pictures. There’s a wide variety of weed and hash here, from high-end sativa to relaxing indicas, with plenty of euphoric, uplifting effects. It’s worth the effort to get in because the staff are always welcoming and helpful.
