The flashlight feature of your iPhone makes it easy to see what’s on your screen. But it’s also easy to accidentally turn it on without realizing it.
Luckily, there are a few ways to easily turn off your iPhone’s flashlight. You can use the Control Center, the Lock screen, or even Siri to do so.
Turning on the flashlight
The iPhone’s flashlight is an essential tool for when you need to find your keys at night or illuminate a dark area, but it can also be an annoying drain on your battery. If your iPhone 12 has a flashlight shortcut on the lock screen, you can’t get rid of it, but there are plenty of ways to turn it off and save yourself some precious power.
There are two main ways to turn on the flashlight on an iPhone 12. One method requires you to unlock your phone with Face ID or a passcode. The other lets you open Control Center without having to unlock your device.
When you turn on the flashlight using the lock screen, it’s important to be careful not to accidentally tap the button. If you do, the flashlight will switch on and drain your battery – no matter where you are.
To avoid this, make sure you never touch the flashlight icon on the lower left of your iPhone’s lock screen. Instead, you can activate the flashlight by tapping on the screen to wake your device or by pressing the Side button if your iPhone is locked.
The other way to turn on the flashlight is to activate Raise to Wake. This feature can be a little annoying because it can be easy to unconsciously trigger the flashlight by raising your iPhone up, but you can easily prevent this from happening with a quick change in settings.
You can turn off Raise to Wake by opening Settings and tapping Display & Brightness. You can also turn off Tap to Wake, which turns on the flashlight when you tap on the screen.
Turning off the flashlight
Your iPhone 12 comes with a bright LED flash that doubles as a flashlight. Whether you want to illuminate a dark area or find a lost key in the middle of the night, this feature can come in handy. However, you might have noticed that the flashlight doesn’t turn off easily or quickly.
To get the flashlight off on your iPhone 12, you can use one of three methods: swipe down from the top-right corner, touch the flashlight icon on your lock screen, or ask Siri. You can also set up a shortcut on your Home Screen for easy access to turning the flashlight on or off.
Using a flashlight shortcut on your Home Screen is pretty simple, but it does require that you create a new widget to display the flashlight. You can add a Flashlight widget on the Home Screen by long-pressing any empty area of the screen and then tapping “Add Widget”.
Then, give the widget a name and an icon. You can also customize the widget in many ways.
You can choose a default brightness intensity, or you can change the time it takes to turn on or off your flashlight. If you want to adjust the brightness of your flashlight, tap and hold on the bar above the Flashlight button.
This will open up a Control Center screen, which gives you quick access to your iPhone’s settings. You can then tap the Flashlight button to toggle the flashlight off or on.
If you have an iPhone with Face ID, you can even use the Control Center to toggle the flashlight’s brightness. You can change the brightness of your iPhone’s flashlight from Control Center, which is another great option if you need extra light in an emergency situation.
Changing the brightness of the flashlight
The flashlight on an iPhone 12 is handy when you’re in the dark or need to see something clearly. It also helps if you’re in an emergency situation and need to signal for help, so it’s important to keep it bright enough.
You can adjust the brightness of your iPhone 12’s flashlight in a few ways. The first is by opening Control Center and tapping the Flashlight icon.
Once the icon appears, you can use a large five-segment slider to change the brightness of your flashlight. The higher the setting, the brighter it will be. However, be aware that this will drain your iPhone’s battery faster than a lower setting.
Changing the time it takes to turn on the flashlight
If you’ve got an iPhone 12 or any other iOS device running a recent version of the operating system, it’s possible to change the time it takes to turn on the flashlight. This can make it much faster if you need to use your device in dark places, for example.
You can also create a shortcut to switch the flashlight on and off in the Shortcuts app. If you’re an iOS user, this can be especially helpful because you don’t have to open a screen or navigate to the Control Center to enable and disable the flashlight.
Creating a shortcut is simple, and once it’s finished, you can configure it to be triggered by tapping two or three times on the back of your device. Then, you’ll just need to run the shortcut and it will automatically toggle your flashlight on or off.
Another way to toggle your flashlight on or off is through the lock screen of your iPhone 12. If you have an iPhone X, XS, XS Max, or XR, there’s a quick-press toggle on the lock screen that can turn the flashlight on or off.
While the lock screen toggle is fast and works on all iPhones, it’s not as easy to use as a shortcut. It can also be frustrating if you’re trying to hold your iPhone with one hand and tap the Lock Screen button, for instance.
For these reasons, you might want to install a flashlight app that can enable or disable the light on your iPhone without opening a screen or going to the control center. These apps are usually very simple to use and are available for free in the App Store.
You can even adjust the brightness of your flashlight in iOS 12, which is a neat little feature that lets you change the amount of light it produces. Once you’ve done this, you can set it to remember your setting the next time you use it.
