Traditionally, cowrie shells have been valued as currency and used as symbols of wealth, prosperity, and protection. They have been known to hold the spirit of an ocean goddess and bring good luck, health, and success to anyone who wears them. This deep symbolism makes them a popular purchase for many people, especially in this uncertain and chaotic world.
Cowrie shells (Cypraea chinensis) are large marine gastropod mollusks. They are spherical to egg-shaped, with a round dorsal face and a flat under side. Their spire is long and narrow, or sometimes toothed. They have a wide mantle line with white or yellow blobs and spots.
To make a cowrie shell bracelet, start by cutting a 24” section of string and tying a regular knot about 4” from the end of the cord. Next, place a cowrie shell on the cord and wrap it around so that it is sandwiched between the 2 strings. Once the shell is wrapped around, tie another regular knot on either side of the shell to secure it in place. Repeat this step for the rest of the shells in your bracelet. cowrie bracelet
